Sunday, April 2nd: USA to Lima, Peru
4:30 am
Saturday night into Sunday I could not sleep. I was stressfully trying to pack and ended up packing all night. I wanted to originally take two checked-in luggage with one carry-on luggage. The end result was 3 check-in luggage with one backpack and one purse. Sarah and I combined have 5 check-in bags. We were able to check-in all the luggage with an extra cost of course, but it is worth it to help those in need. As you can see below, we are super tired and excited.

In the Air…
I love to fly. It is exciting to see the world in an aerial view! Today, I was able to see a complete rainbow in the sky for the first time! I heard that a rainbow is a circle from the sky. I was able to take a quick picture then it was gone.
From more information on rainbows, National Geographic as a great article here: https://education.nationalgeographic.org/resource/rainbow/
In Christianity, the rainbow represents a covenant (unconditional promise) between God and the earth to never flood the world again (New International Version, 1973/2017, Genesis 9:1-17). The promise God has made with me is that I will be safe, inspired, and will be useful to those in need in Peru. I felt God allowed me to see the rainbow because He was telling me that He always keeps His promises.

12 And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: 13 I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. 14 Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, 15 I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life.
Genesis 9:12-15 NIV
I Spy with my little eye…
Can you find the statue of liberty in these photos below? On the first flight to Newark/New York (EWR) we could not find the Statue of Liberty. It took the second flight, from EWR to Lima, Peru to locate the Statue of Liberty.
On the flight to Lima, Peru, I found it astonishing on how small the Statue of Liberty is compared to the gigantic skyscrapers in New York City! The perception of the Statue of Liberty in my mind was much larger than reality.

Arrival in Lima, Peru!
Local Time : 11 pm
We have arrived to Lima, Peru! We have survived an approximate 1 hour and 13 min flight delay, a 7 hour flight and customs! Nevertheless, we will spend the night at the Lima Airport until next domestic flight to Iquitos, Peru on Monday, April 4th at 7:35 am. We navigated through customs, found our check-in luggage and converted our USA dollars to Peruvian soles.
We walked with our luggage to the food court to rest and eat. I was able to find safe bottles of water for us to drink and at the counter I met a women who was half-Nigerian and half-Peruvian! She was really nice and shocked to see me. I found it really cool to meet someone who was bicultural like me!

Food Court
Spicy Honey Mustard and Ketchup Jam
Within Lima, Peru Airport, we found a food court and I found a KFC. I know what your are thinking, “KFC, really?” I really wanted to try the Peruvian version of KFC! There was a sauce packet called ketchup that tasted like tomato jam. First sauce packet to taste, is the the Peruvian version of ketchup, it is more sugary with a jam consistency than USA Ketchup. The second sauces packet, is the Peruvian version of mustard which is yellow and taste like a spicy version of honey mustard.

Overall, I really enjoyed my first day of travel to Peru! Right now, Sarah is trying to get some sleep and I am writing on my blog! Thank you again for watching our journey to Peru!
Until next time,
Esohe
